There is no Welsh Bac 'exam' as such. The learning experiences in the Core and Options will give students opportunities to acquire their key skills. Each student will compile a portfolio of evidence showing how their key skills have developed. They will also undertake an Individual Investigation of an aspect of the Core which interests them, and again, will give them opportunities to develop their key skills.

In each of their Options the students will sit the examinations required for that Option.

The student's achievement in the Core (the attainment of the Key Skills, the Individual Investigation and the completion of the curriculum activities) and the Options are combined together and recognised by the awarding of the Welsh Bac Diploma.
