Restoring The Sound

Trevor Sampson has a vision to empower young people and community groups, especially those who find themselves in challenging circumstances. He has a natural gift for bringing people together and inspiring them through the power of music. He is an outstanding international musician but never forgets his township roots. Although he travels the world performing his heart and soul lies with his township roots in Macassar. It is here that his dream project centre called Restoring The Sound lies.

Restoring The Sound (RTS) is a project that was started by Trevor Sampson, a professional Gospel singer, songwriter, producer, and recording engineer. Trevor is also an ordained Minister, although you could never tell. Restoring The Sound is based in Macassar, Cape Town, South Africa. The centre is a large two storey building which used to be downstairs a former derelict drinking den. Trevor had the vision to buy the building and convert it into an amazing community centre. Upstairs is a church hall able to seat 200. Downstairs is a state of the art recording studio with sound proofed practice rooms. It is equipped to the highest professional standards through Trevor’s international music connections and funding contacts.  It means that those in Macassar have something in their RTS centre that can give them back their voices, hence the project’s name, Restoring The Sound.

The link between Macassar and Whitchurch High Schools and Restoring the Sound is an obvious one since the Restoring The Sound center is only 400 metres from the front gates of Macassar High. It was Trevor who first visited Whitchurch High School in 2003 who suggested some type of link. From those early days the rest as they say is history! In the past three years twenty-five members of staff from both High Schools have flown to the other side of the World along with twenty of their students to hear each others voices and listen and be part of to their life stories.
