International Award
In 2005 Whitchurch High School was first awarded the prestigious International School Award validated by the British Council. We were the only Welsh Secondary School to have received the award that year. In 2008 under the continued expert guidance of Mr Rob Davies, our now retired International coordinator, we were reaccredited for a further three years. In 2011, Mrs C Davies, our current International Dimension Coordinator secured reaccreditation for the full ISA until July 2014.
The DCSF International School Award is an accreditation scheme for curriculum based international work in schools and is open to all those in the UK. Our curriculum, including Personalised Learning at KS3 and the Welsh Baccalaureate programmes at KS4 and KS5 further reinforce this important aspect.
For the International Schools Award to be attributed, schools must demonstrate:
- An international ethos embedded throughout the school
- The impact and involvement of the majority of pupils within the school on international work
- A Collaborative curriculum-based work with a number of partner schools
- Curriculum-based work across a range of subjects
- Year round international activity
- Involvement of the wider community
- Evaluation from a variety of sources allowing the school to improve its activities and programme
The Sustainable Schools National Framework states that, by 2020the Government would like all schools to be models of good global citizenship, enriching their educational mission with activities that improve the lives of people living in other parts of the world.
We continue to reaffirm as a school our delight that we have been able to sustain and further develop our international links from those early days of 2005.
