Tom Auton Hits Double Number One Spot

Congratulations to Tom Auton of Whitchurch High School’s Year 11 who entered the United Kingdom Future Music Songwriting competition in London on Saturday 21st June 2015. Tom was the overall winner out of the 3,000 who entered. The judges overall comments to Tom on his wining song ‘Take me Back’ and live performance were,  “ It’s a great pop track with good hooks and a nice structure. We can definitely see all the One Direction and 5 Seconds of Summer fans singing to this!“

This is Tom’s second award in less than twelve months having won the Open Mic competition at the NEC in February 2015 earlier this year.  As one observer wrote, “ The young singer-songwriter should fill out a deed poll and change his name to, ‘The Alchemist’, given that evidently everything he touches turns to gold having won two national songwriter awards in the space of twelve months.

The UK Future Music Songwriting competition in June 2015 saw a prestigious panel of music industry judges who have at every stage of the songwriting competition, offered songwriters the opportunity to have their music heard by the most influential decision-makers in the music industry, including A&R representatives who work for the UK's three major record labels – Sony Music Entertainment, Warner Music Group and Universal Music.

As well as developing contestants with music industry feedback and live performance experience in some of the UK’s best venues, Open Mic UK also offer singers the chance to win from thousands of pounds worth of prizes throughout their talent competitions, including £5,000 advance for the overall winner, recording studio time at some of the country’s best studios, singing lessons at some of the country’s finest facilities, copies of act’s live show performances, filmed in HD, and photographs of act’s live show performances.

The self playing video below features Tom playing his winning song, ‘Take me Back’, which was uploaded on You Tube at the end of last November.
