Whitchurch Young Evaluators

Whitchurch High has become involved in the pilot of the Young Evaluators Project in Cardiff, intended to get students actively involved in researching aspects of learning within the school and bringing about improvements as a result. Six Key Stage 3 students are involved, namely Finn Provan and Alasdair Maclean-Smith from Year 8 and Catrin McCarthy, Sam Wall, Bethan Harry and Prem Sisodiya from Year 7. All these students were required to complete a rigorous application form, with an accompanying reference, in order to participate. In February they participated in two days of intensive training at County Hall, with four other schools, preparing them for their research, and deciding on a title for the investigation as follows:
‘How can learning in Whitchurch be made more enjoyable and interesting?’
Mr Daniel and Mrs Hall accompanied them as mentors, but the project is very much down to the students to lead and complete. When they have finished their research, they will present to other schools involved in the project and, most importantly, to the Senior Leadership Team of the school. To date, all six students have come up with some excellent ideas, showing their calibre for the job in hand, their leadership qualities, their independence, their enjoyment of learning and their great concern to make Whitchurch an even better place for students and staff. It has been a very rewarding experience for Mr Daniel and Mrs Hall to work with such mature young people.
The outcomes of this project will be posted on this website at a later date.
