Physics Rap
9B at Whitchurch High School, Cardiff were set the challenge of writing a rap about a physics principle by their class teacher, PGCE student Josh Thomas.
They choose “forces” as their subject and recorded their masterpiece during a lunch time. After completing this creative venture, they were delighted to find out there was a competition taking place requiring pupils to design and produce a rap video.
With all the hard work already in place, three students were invited to the prestigious launch event at The University of Glamorgan, Treforest Campus, on Monday the 24th of January, for a bit of inspiration.
They were given the privilege of performances from Jon Chase from the popular CBBC’s Space Hoppers and Jonny Berliner, a singer-songwriter from London. The lyrical content of both was centred around physics, the singer-songwriter even sang a song about fundamental particles, something not yet covered in the Key Stage 3 syllabus.
Pupils were then shown videos of past work, most of which included beautifully produced stop frame animation. Overall, this was a hugely positive experience for the students and maybe a way into physics, for more creatively minded students.
