Learning to Learn - Curiosity for Questions

On Wednesday, 9th March our year 7 pupils had a day dedicated to “Learning to Learn”, when they could step back from their normal timetabled lessons and focus on the learning process itself. The day offered a variety of sessions, from “Mind Mapping” to “Brain Gym”. One of the sessions, “Curiosity for Questions” encouraged pupils to think about the way they question the world around them and to learn through effective questioning.

This was also applied to their knowledge of their own countries and other countries in the European Union. Pupils used their Passports to the European Union (kindly sent by the European Commission) to give them information about the 27 member states. This Passport was also the starting point for new and original questions, such as “What are the advantages of being part of the European Union?” or “Why do people leave their own countries?”

The pupils thoroughly enjoyed this activity and were very eager to complete all the activities suggested in their Passports, which was also filled with interesting information about every country in the European Union. No doubt they will be taking these Passports next time they go abroad!
