German GCSE in the Black Forest

In April 2011, 35 excited GCSE pupils of German set off for Germany and had such a great time that nobody wanted to come back home! Frau Carter, Frau Arthur, Miss Arthur and Mr Morgan all said they had been possibly the best bunch of kids they had ever taken abroad.

We had huge amounts of fun, fabulous sunny weather, spoke lots of German with our German partners and saw a lot of this stunning area of southern Germany.

The highlight for many was the day spent at our partner school in Baden-Baden, the Klosterschule vom Heiligen Grab, a grammar school in the town centre. Whitchurch pupils gave wonderful Powerpoint and video presentations about WHS and Cardiff, we sang several songs in Welsh then pupils spent the day in lessons and going out with their new German friends, eating with them in the evening before returning, tearfully, to our coach. Firm links have been made and the next phase is a return trip to WHS by the Germans!

Other great activities included a bike tour around Freiburg and (a tiny bit) of the Black Forest, a morning in harness and zip wires in the tree tops of Action Forest, boating and Black Forest gateau-eating at Lake Titisee and a crazy day at Europa Park, Germany’s biggest theme park.

Alles klar?? – WUNDERBAR!!
