Engineering Education Scheme

The Engineering Education Scheme exists to promote engineering to Y12 students who are studying maths, science and technology subjects. The scheme pairs a team from schools with a local engineering company to solve a ‘live’ engineering problem.

On October 15th the Whitchurch High school EESW group joined schools around south Wales in an induction day for the EESW in Cardiff University.

This years project outline was set by our paired company for this year GE Aircraft, It was also informative in terms of what we need to achieve with the scheme.

During the visit we were set a task to consider the different aspects of creative thinking, such as, what is a creative idea? Also, how do you generate and brainstorm an idea? We then presented our answers in the form of a presentation in front of the other schools. Joseph Beachey and Adam Rogers presented this together. We felt we gave clear concise answers to all question with good definitions and examples.

We were then scheduled to meet our engineer to discuss our design brief, but due a complication, he could not attend.

We got our design brief a few days later, explaining exactly what is required.

The team: Joe Beachey, Adam Rogers, Gareth Zahn, Tom Zahn, Nick Rose and Ed Gillespy.

The contact engineer is Mr David Brown of GE Aviation and the contact teacher is Mr C. Harris. We found out our brief a few days later in a visit to GE Aviation where we collected some pictures for research purposes.
