Steph & Spike's Swiss Adventure

Both Nathan Williams from year 11 and sister Stephanie Williams from year 9 were fortunate enough to be selected to represent Great Britain in the 2010 World Kyokushin Kata Tournament, in April which was held in Lucerne, Switzerland. They had both trained extremely hard in the months leading up to the tournament and this showed when they competed against a very strong field of competitors.

Once again the Russian competitors proved to be the ones to beat and despite the Icelandic Volcano threatening to mar the proceedings, with many European judges unable to make the tournament, resulting in an abundance of Eastern European judges, both Nathan and Stephanie did enough to make there way through to the finals.

Nathan performed really well and managed to secure 3rd place, behind 2 Russian competitors. Stephanie, being the youngest member of the GB Squad surprised many people on the day, including herself and just missed out on a podium place by point 1 to come a very credible 4th place. The event was a fantastic spectacle and the excitement did not end there. A coach had to be sent across from Britain to rescue the Squad when they were unable to make their return flight, due to the Volcanic Ash. This experience resulted in a great team spirit and saw Nathan celebrate his 16th Birthday aboard a 52 seat coach, certainly a birthday he will never forget.
