On Wednesday 7th July the U14 and the U16 girls went to Brecon to compete in the Welsh Athletics Cup/Plate finals respectively.  They were representing Cardiff & The Vale of Glamorgan after beating all other teams in the County to qualify for this prestigious event. 

The U16 Girls, captained by Rebecca Foley, battled well in the Plate Final throughout the day with outstanding performances from all athletes, in particular Lucy Davies (1st Shot), Grace Burnett (2nd Discus), Feyisara Odunuga (2nd Javelin), Amy Packham-Smith (3rd 200m) and Rebecca Foley (2nd 75m Hurdles). All other athletes finished in the top five for their events which reflected the overall strength throughout the team.  The U16 were bitterly disappointed to come runner up (by 6 points) in the Plate Competition to Ysgol Cwm Rhymni of Glamorgan Valleys.

The U14 Girls had an immense day with a closely fought battle for first place in the Cup Competition.  The day started with awesome performances from Namoi Davies (1st Long Jump), Stephanie Lowe (2nd 800m), Chrystal Philippou (3rd 100m) and Kate Seary (3rd 1500m and 2nd High Jump), Olivia Evans, Chrystal Philippou, Lena Meister, Rhian Ellis (1st Relay).  As the day progressed the scores became tighter and tighter with the result pending on the relay performance. The success of the Relay Team winning the final race meant that the girls took the Championship title, beating Ysgol Gwyr of Afan Nedd Tawe by one point, final score 66 to Whitchurch and 65 to Ysgol Gwyr.  Congratulations to all the girls who competed, a tremendous achievement and a superb team effort.
