Kids Lit Quiz

Tuesday 10^th November saw four top readers of Year 8 heading to the Wales and West Regional Final of the Kids Lit Quiz. The final was held at Bishop of Llandaff High School with seventeen teams competing.

Whitchurch team consisted of James Barton, Robert Alder, Jessica James and Sam Gibbs Perry, all of whom have battled many other year 8 pupils in a fortnightly quiz to gain a position on the team.

Whitchurch started off with a tremendous first round gaining the maximum score of ten and earning themselves a book each as the round winners. The quiz was often tense as many rounds ended in a tie breaker which meant that sudden death questions were required to separate the winners.

Although we had an average score of 7 out of ten, our arch enemies from quizzes past- Howells School- were just too strong for us this year and succeeded in earning the title, Welsh Champions 2009 .This secured a place at the UK final in July at  Oxford.

Second place was a tie break between Whitchurch and Bristol Grammar. This lead to a tie break question being asked and just a mere second later, James Barton flew in with the correct answer ensuring we gained this year’ second position.

Congratulation is due to each team member, who performed magnificently under pressure and who are all keen to coach next years team.
