Indonesian Visit

On Wednesday 14th April 2010, Whitchurch High School welcomed a visit by a number of Indonesian dignitaries.
"The school was visited by senior representatives from the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Ministry of National Education and a representative from the Local Sport and Youth Development Authority - West Java Province. They were visiting Wales to gain an understanding of the Education system, how Physical Education is taught, Sport as a vehicle for encouraging community cohesion and tackling disengagement among young people, and non-formal Education. Their visit to Whitchurch High was intended to give the group an understanding of how a Welsh Secondary school operates, how it teaches Physical Education, encourages Sport and active living, and implements the 5x60 programme. The visit to the school was co-ordinated by British Council."
The visit started in Upper School in the Board Room with a presentation on the school by Mr Huw Jones-Williams, Head Teacher supported by Hannah Mawson and Jamie Elson the 5 x 60 officers, Mrs G Bell (Deputy Head Teacher) and Mr G Morris (Head of PE). Afterwards the party viewed our ‘Wall of Fame’ and visited the Upper School Sport’s Hall. It was then over to Lower School where the visitors saw the pitches and astro-turf. The inter-house competition for Year Ten pupils was in full swing and the party saw girls’ netball in the Rec and boys’ football on the Power League pitches. The party then retired to the Upper School Board Room to meet a number of our talented pupils: Nathan Williams, Joshua Madley, Glen Evans, Jasmine Carlson, Stephanie Harris and Rhiannon Lavin, finishing with a plenary question and answer session was held.
We very much enjoyed meeting our Indonesian visitors who were highly impressed by the facilities at the school and the participation rate of those involved in sport. We were able to whole heartedly endorse and celebrate the introduction of the 5 x 60 officers. This scheme has helped to support an outstanding physical education department.
