Two brilliant events, both centered around the European Day of Languages were held recently in school, putting WHS even more firmly on the international map.

On Thursday 24th September all year 11 pupils studying GCSE German – 55 in total – took part in a Creative Media workshop run by the UK-German Connection, who had travelled all the way from London just for us! Frau Carter and Frau Kellner joined in the fun and games as the pupils produced articles in German for an online magazine and chatted live and online with pupils from our partner school in Baden-Baden, Germany, the Robert-Schuman-Schule, who was also linked in to the same online forum.

It was very exciting as messages flew back and forth between the two countries, particularly so as a large number of the WHS pupils had been to the school in Baden-Baden this last April, had met the pupils and been to their houses and thus were catching up on the gossip! On Friday 25th September pupils and staff took part in a 4 way video-conference link with French schools to celebrate the European Day of Languages ( 26th September).

Madame Cousins, Madame Sword, Becky Treadaway and Hana-Mai Hawkins ( IB students) linked up with schools in Nîmes. Perpignan and Argelès sur Mer to complete a quiz on Europe and have a bit of a chat! Madame Cousins and Hana- Mai gave a demonstration of a conversation in Welsh, followed by a fine rendition of the Welsh national anthem, very ably assisted by Becky!

Further links are expected with our partner school in Baden-Baden in Germany and also with Andorra and Spain so that the facility can be extended to other classes and languages. Fantastique! Wunderbar! Fantastico!
