Schools Against Racism
Pupils in Mrs Roberts’ year 8 Art and Design classes were entered into The 2009 ‘Schools Against Racism’ calendar and poster competition run by ‘Race Equality First’ in Cardiff. The theme this year was equality for all and the standard of entries was very high.
Over 1000 entries were judged and Whitchurch High School had not one but three winners chosen! The winners were Kayley Peters and Emily Kemp who had their designs chosen for October and March of the calendar and Ieuan Thomas’ design was chosen as the campaigns poster which will be placed in schools, community centres, libraries etc. all over Cardiff.
Pupils attended the special prize giving ceremony on Wednesday (3rd Dec) at the Friary centre in Cardiff, accompanied by their parents, Art Teacher – Mrs Roberts, and the Head Teacher – Mr Huw Jones-Williams. The Lord Mayor presented the pupils with their certificates and prizes, and pupils were given the opportunity to meet the other winners and stay for a celebratory buffet!
Pupils were presented with framed certificates and a £50 prize each. The school was awarded a framed certificate and a £150 prize, which Mr Huw Jones Williams received on behalf of the school.
