Basic Skills Quality Mark

Geraint Thomas

At the beginning of December the school was awarded its third re-accreditation of the Basic skills quality mark by the Welsh Basic Skills Agency.

This is a very significant award as it recognises all the work being done in the school and our ambitious programme for the future.

Literacy and Numeracy skills have been honed by the adoption of a rigorous action plan which tackles both underachievement and under attainment across Key Stage 3 and 4 and provides help with spelling, reading, comprehension skills and numeracy.

No pupil entering year 7 is denied extra help in these areas if they need it and all Departments are strongly committed to improving key skills in all subject areas.

The reaccreditation process saw over seventy pieces of evidence submitted to prove that a comprehensive programme of support was freely available to all pupils in the school’s quest to provide our children at Whitchurch with ‘Learning for life’.
