Mumbles Night Fishing

WHS Fishing Club thoroughly enjoyed its first ever night fishing session on Friday 28th November at Mumbles Pier, Swansea. Over 60 people left school at 6pm and set off in convoy for Swansea to do battle in a “bring an adult” competition on the pier - which had been exclusively set aside for the use of WHS.

It was a clear but bitterly cold night and with pupils paired up with their parents thankfully it turned out that it wasn’t just the cold that was biting. Nearly everyone managed to land fish (even Mr Hodnett!), including whiting, pout, doggies and dabs – with some catching as many as 6!!

The first fish fell to Jake Harry (8T), the largest to Ella Jackson (9P) and the most fish to Dan Evans (9K), all winning prizes for those categories in the competition. A special award was made to Sinead Tandy (8M) for her sheer enthusiasm on a particularly chilly evening.

It was hugely pleasing to see so many families out supporting the Fishing club and a pleasurable time was had by all. Massive thanks go out to everyone involved in supporting and running the event – with particular thanks to Brandon Jones and Ian McIntyre for their immense efforts.

Keep an eye out in the spring/summer for a similar event, fingers crossed it will be slightly warmer!!
