Diana Award

Whitchurch High School is delighted to announce that 16 pupils have been honoured with the Diana Anti-Bullying Award.

The pupils have been chosen for the Award because of their inspirational qualities that were demonstrated through their commitment and work in the field of Peer Mentoring whilst they were in Year 9 (2007-2008). After an initial two day training programme, some of the year 9 pupils were individually matched with year 7 pupils who had requested their own 'Buddy', whilst other year 9 pupils provided a daily drop in  provision which was open to all. The young people who have received this award demonstrated a tremendous enthusiasm and commitment for the duration of the year.

Huw Jones-Williams Headteacher of Whitchurch High School commented "We are delighted that Jane Hutt, Welsh Assembly Minister for Education is able to present the Diana Anti-Bullying Awards, along with Jade Mock a representative from the Diana team. We are also very proud of our Diana Award holders and the staff who have directly supported them and everyone else".

Maggie Turner, Director of the Diana Award, says "Many young people across the UK are doing some amazing work to tackle bullying and we are delighted to be able to recognise their achievements through the Diana Anti-Bullying Award".

Jackie Allen, Manager of the Support Centre and organizer of the 'Buddies' club spoke of how proud she was of the pupils who had been given this prestigious award and thanked Steve Hodnett (Head of Lower School) for his help and support of the work that she does and also thanked Neil Potter, Ian McIntyre and Joseph Taylor for their continuous hard work within the Support Centre.
