Careers Day
Aims of the day are:
To introduce learners to the options process and relieve the stress that this can cause.
Allow learners to make well informed GCSE choices and decisions.
Introduce learners to the information and careers advisers who can guide them.
Develop knowledge of the skills and qualities desired by employers and those needed by entrepreneurs.
Provide an opportunity for learners to reflect on and assess their own skills and qualities.
The day will start with an introductory assembly in the Dutch Barn. Lessons one to three will run on a carousel system, in form groups, learners take part in all the following one hour sessions.
I.C.T & Guidance support - Introduction to on-line advice and guidance via careerwales.com. Pupils register and then access links to various sources of information including the school options booklet.
Meet Careers Wales – Learners introduced to advisers and the guidance role of Careers Wales. Session led by advisers who examine the process of making good decisions.
Are you Enterprising? – Session led by local entrepreneurs representing the Dynamo Project. Learners will find out what it takes to work for others and themselves.
Following lunch remain in forms for lesson four and first half of lesson 5.
What Employers Want – Session led by teachers. Learners will work in groups of 4/5 to discuss and record the skills and qualities wanted by employers in their employees. Session will highlight the link between the skills and qualities demonstrated in effective learners and workers alike.
Reflection – Learners remain in forms and complete a self awareness questionnaire allowing them to celebrate strengths and identify areas to be developed. Learners will also complete an evaluation of the day.
