CAB Silver Award
Eight of the sixteen Diana Award holders were delighted to represent the school at the second Annual Cardiff Against Bullying (CAB) Awards. Whitchurch was one of nine secondary schools listed and won a silver award for the work of our students and our innovative strategies in helping to combat any form of bullying, which is at a low level.
Thanks to Mrs J Allen (Support Centre and organiser of the ‘Buddies Club’), Mrs G Craddock (Year 10 Learning Leader) and Mr H Jones-Williams (Headteacher) who supported and celebrated with the students at City Hall.
“I feel the scheme helped a lot of pupils in Years 7 and 8. Pupils made friends and they even came to see us in breaks just to play card games. These helped us ‘Buddies’ to learn more about them. My buddy did not cry any more”.
“We always seemed to get a lot of people coming to see us. All of us were nervous to start with but we all gained good experiences from the scheme”.
“It was an excellent scheme. I enjoyed helping them with homework. The awards gave us recognition for what we did with the younger pupils in Lower School. Buddies became more confident over the year – it became enjoyable and not a task. The Buddies feel proud of themselves”.
