The Carnegie Shadowing scheme involves school libraries across the UK who are challenged to read seven short listed books in seven weeks. At the end of this, they are invited to attend a two day workshop and competition. Each book has its own group in which children from numerous schools are placed. They then perform a small play on their shortlisted book in front of their parents, peers and a panel of judges.
Librarians, Miss Edwards and Miss Loudon joined forces to decide a final group of seven Year 9 students chosen to take part. To ensure no favouritism Miss Taylor also joined the team. For seven weeks the students attempted to read the books, write reviews and performed presentations about each author. These were evaluated by Miss Edwards’ team and the final selected group went to Howells School, Llandaff on 11th June with neighbouring South Wales schools.
The following day, these groups went to 'The Gate' theatre in Roath and after rehearsals performed in front of peers and teachers with Cosmic winning both afternoon and evening performances.
Bethan Candlin 9R won the best performance in her group and Hannah Davies 9J won 'Best Overall Performance of 2009' for a convincing Head Teacher portrayal!
A wonderful experience was had by all and many new friends made - well done to all participants. |
