This where the latest news will be posted by the
governors regarding the Whitchurch High School Schools’ Organisation
Plan proposals.
UPDATE:
Monday 6th July
On Thursday 2nd July the Council’s
Executive Committee elected to put out to formal consultation the
Whitchurch Schools’ proposals recommended by the Council’s Schools
Sub Committee which have been previously posted on this website.
These proposals affect the following four schools:-
(1) Whitchurch High School (English medium secondary)
(2) Eglwys Newydd Primary School (English medium)
(3) Eglwys Wen Primary (English medium)
(4) Ysgol Gymraeg Melin Grufydd (Welsh medium
primary)
Whitchurch governors
are totally opposed to the proposals, which would prevent 600 pupils
being able to attend Whitchurch High School and see 25 to 30 staff
made redundant. A proposed reduced sized Whitchurch High School
from 12 to 9 form entry, would see the school reduce from its
present size of 2,300 to 1,700 pupils. This would affect the breadth
and quality of curriculum and extra curricular provision at the
school, and may impact upon Post 16 education such as the viability
of the International Baccalaureate. Furthermore the proposals do
nothing to tackle the 8,000 surplus places across the County, as
there are no surplus places at Whitchurch High School.
This now means that the proposals must go out to
statutory consultation likely to be in September - October 2009.
A letter objecting to these proposals will only be
effective during a yet to be determined statutory consultation
period. Please keep watching this web site and the governors will be
able to advise you if it will be necessary to write.
Thank you for supporting Whitchurch High School, a
good and successful school providing education for life.
