The
Council, represented by the Local Education Authority, has engaged
in the past with Whitchurch High School on the latest city wide
Cardiff Schools’ Organisation Plan (SoP).
Whitchurch High School governors are mindful that any proposals must
ensure an investment in the future of the school, and more
importantly, that the current and future generations of Whitchurch
students need to be provided with the very best educational
opportunities.
Discussion about what could happen with school reorganisation is
clearly very important, which is why the Council is working together
with a wide range of people to address the problem. As part of this,
a cross party Schools Sub Committee (or SSC) was established which
looks at School Organisation Proposals.
Monday 6th July is the last Schools Sub Committee meeting
for the 2008 to 2009 academic year. Dates for next year have not
yet been published.
The
latest proposals passed by the Council’s Executive Committee on
Thursday 2nd July 2009 to reduce the size of Whitchurch
High School from a twelve form to nine form entry school are
unacceptable to the governors. This would mean a reduction of the
school over a period of time from 2,300 to 1,700 pupils. There will
be a period of formal consultation in September to October 2009. The
specific dates of this consultation period are unknown.
