Whitchurch High School governors are keen to provide through their website, details on School Organisation Proposals. We are conscious that both parents and friends may also want to look at the Council’s website on this matter, which also gives details as to what is happening and proposed across Cardiff.

The latest proposals passed by the Council’s Executive Committee  on Thursday 2nd July  2009 to reduce the size of Whitchurch High School from a twelve form to nine form entry school are unacceptable to the governors. There will be a period of formal consultation in September to October 2009. The specific dates of this consultation period are unknown.

Whitchurch governors are totally opposed to the proposals, which would prevent 600 pupils being able to attend Whitchurch High School and see 25 to 30 staff made redundant.  A proposed reduced sized Whitchurch High School from a 12 to 9 form entry would reduce the school from 2,300 to 1,700 pupils. This would affect the breadth and quality of curriculum and extra curricular provision at the school, and may impact upon Post 16 education such as the viability of the International Baccalaureate.  Furthermore the proposals do nothing to tackle the 8,000 surplus places across the County, as there are no surplus places at Whitchurch High School.

Please click on the links below which will also allow you to download from the Council’s web site specific documents on the School Organisation Plan. In order to avoid duplication we will only put documents on our website, which we feel are significantly relevant to Whitchurch.
