Eurodisney 2009
On Friday evening, March 6th as the rest of the school celebrated the end of inspection week, five members of the Welsh department and 45 pupils left school for a Welsh weekend at Eurodisney. This is the third year that Eurodisney have run a weekend to celebrate Welsh traditions and culture, and as in previous years the trip was a huge success. Pupils enjoyed two full days at the parks, using fast track passes to have as many goes as possible on the big rides. The new “Terror Towers” was extremely popular, even with Mrs Batten, who took some persuading from Mrs Williams and Mr Bowen to have a go!
Some of the pupils made welshcakes and were able to sample welsh foods as well as buy welsh crafts. On the first evening we were all taken to an Italian restaurant – to our surprise, when we entered the owner played a recording of “Hen Wlad fy Nhadau” and then continued to play Welsh music throughout the evening. Welsh banners had been displayed everywhere and the staff made everyone feel extremely welcome. On the final evening, we returned to the park to see the sights by night and for pupils to go on the rides for the last time.
It was a far quieter coach returning to Cardiff on Monday but everyone agreed that it had been a fantastic weekend. Mrs Batten, Mrs Slade, Mrs Williams, Mr Bowen and Mr Evans would like to thank the year 9 pupils who joined us – they were a credit to themselves and to Whitchurch High. Penwythnos bendigedig!
