Most students with additional needs are taught in mainstream classes by mainstream teachers. However some students benefit from accessing a smaller supported class as their learning needs are of a moderate or severe nature.

On the Lower site, there are 3 classes of pupils with Statements for their Special Educational Needs. These classes are offered a full curriculum, which is highly differentiated, to take account of students’ needs. All our students are fully included in the life of the school and attend school run clubs, take part in concerts, assemblies, school trips etc.

Support is offered as their Statement dictates and all 3 SEN classes are presently supported by an additional adult [T.A Teaching Assistant]. For those pupils who require help at lunchtime/breaks additional support is provided to ensure that they can successfully access the canteen facilities.

On the Upper school site pupils access courses according to their ability. These can include WJEC Entry levels, ASDAN Transition Challenge and GCSEs but there is always a strong emphasis on developing students’ life and social skills to prepare them for independent adult life. Most of our pupils will continue their education at Colleges of Further Ed, Specialist courses, enter the School Sixth form and continue and extend their basic skills and qualifications or access work training programmes.
