Whitchurch High School has a long-standing tradition in music, both instrumental and vocal. Music continues to flourish at the school which has two full choirs, a chamber choir, two full orchestras, two string orchestras, two wind bands, a percussion ensemble, rock groups and various chamber groups.

 

The department has three fulltime members of staff augmented by twelve peripatetic teachers who visit the school each week. Several concerts are given each year at different venues in the Cardiff area.

 

Recently the School Wind Band received a ‘Highly Commended’ Award at the National Festival of Music for Youth and was subsequently invited to perform at the School Proms in the Royal Albert Hall. Further more, in July 2004, the School Orchestra received the 'Outstanding Achievement Award at the National Festival of Music for Youth at the Royal Festival Hall London.
