History Department Trips
The History department has taken many trips over the years to enhance the experience of students in all key stages. At the moment as part of the Medieval Realms Study Unit, pupils visit Cosmeston Medieval Village and Caerphilly Castle for a day trip in the Summer term. They are given a guided tour of the castle. We have a packed lunch and then move on to to St Fagan's to see the medieval farmhouse.
In year 8 as part of the Expansion, Trade and Industry Unit we visit Blaenavon Iron Works and then move on and visit the Big Pit Mining Museum.
In year 9 as part of the ‘Twentieth Century World’ Study Unit, pupils visit the Imperial War Museum. We look at the trenches exhibition. We also get to talk to a 'soldier' who tells us about life in the trenches'.
In February 2010 the department took 30 students to Washington and New York. This was a combined year 10 and year 12 trip. For year 10 this fits in with the new WJEC GCSE USA 1910-1929 course and for year 12 it was aimed at the Politics students who study the comparative politics course in year 13.
