Two lucky groups of year 9 pupils accompanied Mr Mulford to the University of Glamorgan to enter the annual Engineering Team Challenge.  This years’ event was sponsored by the engineering company Arup in association with the Institute of Structural Engineers.

The teams were challenged to design and make a tower crane with limited resources, to a minimal height 600 mm, whilst supporting the maximum amount of weight at a height of 300 mm without failing.  Whitchurch pupils, again this year had the upper hand after studying Structures in year 8.

A variety of creative and innovative designs were made on both days and congratulations were extended to all participants.  On the first day 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places were secured by; Kim Nieuwenhuis, Fatima Omrani, and Tom Davies.  On the second day 1st and 3rd places were secured by Lois Dearden, and Stephanie O’Brian.  It was overall a fun and fantastic experience for all the pupils who attended.  We would like to personally thank Mr Alan Perry for co-ordinating the whole event.
